The elimination of extreme poverty, economic development, and public savings without affecting social programs and infrastructure are some of the highlights of the program of Brazil’s new president, Dilma Rousseff.
Since shortly after winning the Oct. 31 election run-off, Rousseff has been defining the main lines of the government she will lead from Saturday on, when she will receive the presidential sash from her political patron, the popular and charismatic Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
As priorities, Rousseff has highlighted her firm commitment to eliminating extreme poverty and to creating opportunities for all Brazilians.
To reach this goal, Rousseff urged collaboration among all Brazilians, who should keep fighting as long as a single Brazilian suffers for hunger, families are homeless, and children are abandoned.
She also admitted that a tough task awaits her in improving economic development, and emphasized that the new era of prosperity her country is experiencing is thanks to the brilliant work of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
